When I walked on to the beach here, the first thought that occurred to me was, “wow, this looks like a bluebonnet!” and it is. Only it is like on steroids.
Lupinus chamissonis aka Beach blue lupine, Chamisso bush lupine, Dune bush lupine, Dune lupine is a cousin of the Texas Bluebonnet. Only this one is a shrub. It is also native and endemic to California. It loves sand dunes and the beaches.
The Golden Gate Bridge in the background and the warm light dancing on Marin Headlands across the bay for a moment seemed secondary to what was just glowing a few feet away.
