What you are seeing is the aftermath of an explosive sunset. Ruby red clouds glowed like smoldering coals in a fireplace. It was one of the finest displays of cloud pyrotechnics I have ever witnessed.
This was the scene from behind the Jackson Lake Lodge with Jackson lake in the distance and the Teton range forming the backdrop.
The peaks of the Grand Teton was still getting bathed with pink alpenglow as the Sun went down. It was slightly past the peak wild flower season so the lupines were mostly gone but there were still some wildflowers blooming in the field of sagebrush which caught the soft warm sunlight. A grove of aspens and willows completed the classic Wyoming picture in mind.
This place has a variety of wildlife and one can see moose, foxes, bears, elk and Bald Eagles even during the day from a distance. Bear safety and a high degree of common sense is highly recommended with all wildlife.
